The Brazilian Conference on Data Journalism and Digital Methods – Coda.Br, a pioneering event in Brazil focused on data journalism, will celebrate its third year on Nov. 10 and 11 in São Paulo and has opened registration on its website.

Organized by Open Knowledge Brasil in partnership with the Google News Initiative, the conference offers more than 60 hours of programming for journalists and people interested in working with data and the humanities.

The team of invited experts, renowned names in digital and data journalism from Brazil and several other countries, will explore issues such as the role of electoral polls in election results, what is Machine Learning and its potential contributions in journalistic investigations, how to use the Law of Access to Information (LAI) for reporting, among others.

Speakers and instructors include Sarah Cohen, a former editor of the data team at The New York Times and winner of the Pulitzer prize; Jeremy Merril of ProPublica, the U.S. outlet for investigative journalism with data; Alberto Cairo, global expert in data visualization; Fernanda Viegas, PhD from MIT Media Lab and Senior Researcher on Artificial Intelligence at Google; and Daniel Bramatti, president of the Brazilian Association of Investigative Journalism (Abraji) and editor of Estadão Dados, data center of O Estado de S. Paulo newspaper.

In addition to discussions and hands-on workshops, Coda.Br 2018 will have networking spaces on open data, bootcamps for those who want to learn how to program in Python or R languages, and "Bring Your Problem" mentoring sessions where participants can bring their doubts about projects in progress or that have already been completed.
