The planned actions take place under the MANRS ( Mutually Agreed Norms for Routing Security or Mutual Agreement Rules for Routing Security) initiative of ISOC.

The Information and Coordination Center of Ponto BR (NIC.br) and ISOC (Internet Society) signed on Tuesday (26) a memorandum of understanding that provides for initiatives and joint activities to raise awareness of ISPs ( ISPs) on ways to improve the resiliency and security of the Internet routing system. The memorandum was signed during a meeting of ICANN62 in Panama and represents a new phase of the "Safer Internet" program, which brings together several actors from the Internet service chain in Brazil.

The planned actions take place under the MANRS ( Mutually Agreed Norms for Routing Security or Mutual Agreement Rules for Routing Security) initiative of ISOC. The activities promote the security of the global routing system from community measures in order to prevent the propagation of false routing information, traffic with addresses that use forged source IPs, while facilitating global operational communication and coordination between network operators.

"NIC.br and ISOC are in tune and share the vision of an open and secure global Internet that allows innovation and opportunities for all. This partnership enhances the actions of the" For safer Internet "program of NIC.br, which has in MANRS an important ally. It is fundamental to disseminate knowledge and improve the skills of the nearly six thousand Autonomous Systems operating in Brazil. The technical community has an important role in preventing malicious traffic from leaving its networks. actors will have a truly healthy Internet ecosystem, "said Demi Getschko, CEO of NIC.br.

"This MoU brings an opportunity for ISPs and Autonomous Systems to signal their security posture to their customers as well as be part of a set of entities focused on finding solutions to Internet routing security issues. It is our collective responsibility - as network operators - to ensure the reliability and security of the Internet. Working together with NIC.br and our local chapter - ISOC Brasil, we hope to receive more members of Brazil's MANRS to improve routing security worldwide, "emphasizes Raúl Echeberría, Global Vice President of Engagement for the Internet Society.

Among the objectives listed in the memorandum is the joint work of NIC.br and ISOC for the implementation of the IXP MANRS Program in IX.br; the promotion of good routing security practices among Brazilian ISPs including actions of MANRS, cooperation in the area of security measurement of the routing system and adoption of MANRS among Brazilian ISPs, as well as collaboration in capacity building activities for disseminate good routing security practices within the network operator community.

The Best Practices Portal for the Internet in Brazil, from NIC.br, gathers information on Brazilian autonomous systems, including recommendations to Improve the Scenario of Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) Attacks and Implementation of Antispoofing for DDoS Reduction. The "Safer Internet" program portal will be up and running soon.
