Assunto: Projeto OpenCDN

The implementation of the OpenCDN pilot project will start in Salvador, the capital of the Brazilian state of Bahia, in July, promising to bring faster (up to 10 times) and cheaper internet to the local population, reports Correio 24 Horas. The project is the result of a partnership between the Information and Coordination Centre of Ponto BR (NIC.br) and the Internet Management Committee in Brazil (CGI.br) with the Brazilian Internet Association (Abranet).

According to Milton Kaoru Kashiwakura, Director of Special Projects and Development at NIC.br, "the idea is decentralize internet traffic and bring content closer to providers and users". OpenCDN  works with small servers to offer a  better quality internet at a lower cost - about 10 local small servers have already expressed an interest in operating with Salvador's OpenCDN.
